The Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) will help those who do not have any previous teaching experience and wish to enter the English language teaching (ELT) profession; and for teachers who have some experience but do not have formal qualification in teaching.
The Cambridge CELTA is available as a full time (4 weeks) or part time (12 weeks) course. This course is very practical and gives a good basis for successful teaching career. Teaching practice is conducted with real students.Class sizes are small, with the maximum number of participants being six to one trainer.
The Cambridge CELTA is intended to equip candidates with the teaching skills to teach adults in a variety of teaching contexts: general English, business English, exam preparation and academic English programmes. Graduates will also get necessary skills to organize and deliver teaching to children in the English classroom.
During the course trainees will get:
- min of 106 contact hours with other participants and trainers including input, tutorial support, supervised lesson planning, peer observation and feedback on teaching practice
- 6 hours of teaching practice in a group of foreign learners observed by a trainer
- 8 hours directed observation of lessons taught by experienced teachers
To get the Cambridge CELTA trainees need to satisfy all assessment criteria and complete all course requirements. Those candidates, who successfully complete the course, receive both the Cambridge CELTA and a report from International House. The report describes the candidate's performance in some detail and serves as a useful reference for employment.
