indexIf you want to teach English to Adults, you should obtain a CELTA certificate. This certificate is accredited by the TESL Canada, the chief organization assuring quality teaching and the sphere of ESL in Canada. The CELTA course is not available via any distant or correspondence learning.

The main characteristics of all CELTA programs are:

• at least 120 hours of in-class lectures;
• at least 6 hours of supervised teaching practice of foreign students;
• expert critique and recommendations;
• 6 hours of ESL/EFL classes observation (classes conducted by the experienced EFL/ESL teacher);
• no more than 18 participants per course;
• ratio of trainer/trainee 1:6 or better.

In Canada there are 8 centers that provide CELTA training including 2 centers in Toronto and 3 centers in Vancouver. There are also centers that offer the CELTA courses in Montreal, Halifax and Calgary.  The classes may be either part-time or full-time depending on the center.
