• The candidates must possess corresponding educational background (usually a university degree is preferred).
• The candidates must have a proficiency level of English.
• A candidate must complete an application form and Language Awareness Task and send it to the university.
• On the basis of this task, candidates will be invited to the interview (for foreign applicants interviews may be held via phone).
• After a successful interview a candidate will be given Pre-Course Learning Task, which is recommended to be completed before the course starts.

For those applicants, who didn’t pass successfully a Language Awareness Task or didn’t fulfill any other entry requirements, there is an opportunity to enter the course as “Observers” – people who take part in all the course activities, but who are not officially assessed. At the end of the course, they will be given a report from the La Trobe University Language Centre covering all personal achievements and performance.

Course Content
The course is divided into several logical segments, which cover:
- language analysis;
- methodology of teaching language (techniques for teaching different kinds of activity: reading, writing, listening, speaking);
- teaching practice observed by the trainer;
- observation of an experienced teacher.

Course Assessment
The course assessment is continuous and is bases on the participants’
- ability to analyze the lesson’s objectives and how they are achieved;
- performance during the practical teaching classes;
- good preparation of the written assignments and lesson plans;
- development of confidence with basic teaching techniques;
- overall contribution to input sessions.

The participants are assessed with “Pass”, “Pass B” or “Pass A” grades and, on a successful completion of the course, receive a report from Language Centre featuring a candidate’s personal performance and achievements during the course period.

It should be mentioned that there is a big possibility of a candidate failing the course, if the work of the candidate was not persistent or if the candidate didn’t show much progress in teaching practice.
