Teach in Chiang Mai

Teaching in Thailand may be quite beneficial for you and pleasing as well.
Chiang Mai is a great place for living and working in. Teaching English in Chiang Mai is one realistic way to do so. Despite the job isn't a piece of cake,  and the salary is far from that of the capital - Bangkok and rates are up to 30 per cent lower, the atmosphere there is far more relaxing. Teaching isn't a work for everyone, but it can be very fun and beneficial for you as well.

In case you have all necessary qualifications, a good attitude and look reasonably smart, you will not have any problems with finding a teaching job in such city as Chiang Mai. If you're a grimy backpacker looking to hang around for a few months, think twice. The schools have seen lots of dreadlocked, inappropriately dressed drifters hoping for some job, and these professional establishments know better.

Salary rates differ from 180 baht an hour up to 400 baht an hour. The average payment is about 250 baht per hour. Take into consideration that fulltime contracts are less general. Due to the fact that demand outstrips supply, applying person should have good command of English, a well recognized TEFL/EFL certificate, soft accent. An experience is also preferable.

To get a work permit, the Thai manpower department will also demand the proof of a degree (or equivalent), but in reality not many positions here offer contracts with full time with work permit, preferring the convenience of a larger staff of part-time teachers. Most teachers occupy here several positions simultaneously.

In Thailand students are quite helpful and they respect teachers and older people.
Private international schools are plentiful in Chiang Mai but they tend to recruit properly qualified people through overseas agencies. Sometimes the teachers who had already been to Chiang Mai are employed.

More than a dozen language schools offer the best options and these vary in quality. Some teachers prefer voluntary or low paying jobs teaching underprivileged or refugee children (with a few perks), while others occasionally find positions in regular Thai schools (low salary). If you're patient, you can build up a network of private students.

Although many are satisfied to find any teaching work at all in Chiang Mai, it's worth knowing which schools are best. Some of the schools are businesses more than educational institutes and tend to put profits above standards.
