The city peculiarities include smog, odour, crowds of people, excellent network of transport and modern business buildings on the one hand and incredible multi-Asian and Western elements that represent historic past on the other hand. Moreover, the stunning Ocean Park, the fantastic viewpoint of Victoria Peak or the beautiful Repulse Bay are among the most incredible sites of the area.

City Parts

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China was once a simple fishing village. Today it is the fourth largest financial and banking centre with eighth largest trading economy. It is situated in the south-east of China and occupies an area of approximately 1, 100 sq km. The population totals 6,970,000 people most of whom speak official languages: Cantonese (the dialect of Chinese) and English.

Four parts constitute Hong Kong. They are:
• Hong Kong Island – the centre of economy, politics, entertainment and shopping (northern part of the Island); residential area (eastern part); sea shores and bays area (southern part of the Island);
• Kowloon Peninsula – a day and night busy place for tourists with the most popular areas including Causeway Bay, Wan Chai , Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok;
• the New Territories – a peaceful part of Hong Kong;
• the Outlying Islands – another part of Hong Kong where one can spend time in peaceful and natural surroundings.

Climate and Weather

Hong Kong’s climate is subtropical:
• November to December is the most pleasant time of year in Hong Kong when there is enough sunshine, the temperatures are nice and the breezes are warm. The suggested clothing varies from shirtsleeves to sweaters and light jackets depending on the temperatures.
• From January to February the climate is fine but the temperatures can be quite low sometimes dropping to below 10°C. It is the time to wear suits, light woollens and sometimes overcoats.
• In March through April the temperatures are higher but closer to May the weather becomes very humid. For this period jackets or sweaters are suggested.
• From May to September typhoons are a frequent occurrence in Hong Kong, for which one must be prepared (for example, not planning much travelling for this period or time). The clothes to wear are shirtsleeves, cotton clothing, a sweater for indoors and an umbrella for outside.
