At the same time a lot of schools in Ghana are lacking in both staff and resources, and the classrooms are poor. The schools also need good teachers to teach good English to the students. Volunteers are also needed to give theoretical and practical help to primary and junior secondary school math, English and science teachers in Ghana.

No formal teacher-training is required to teach English in Ghana as each volunteer will be supported by the project manager and existing volunteers, as well as the volunteer coordinator, a formal local teacher. On the other hand, if you have any experience of teaching or working with children it is a great advantage.

As a volunteer teacher of English you should be enthusiastic, happy to work with children and prepared to teach in essential conditions. You may teach not only English but also Math, or Science in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools.

While teaching in this country you will in general be asked to take the timetabled English classes for a range of ages. Your encouragement, admiration and some good-fun lessons are frequently all that is required to spark an interest in the language and a wish to try harder.
